The decision to withdraw the 100 Croatian soldiers from the UN Disengagement Observer Force posted on the Syrian demilitarized zone on the Golan followed a New York Times report that Saudi Arabia had sent Croatian arms to Syrian rebels. Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said: “No matter how many times we deny this story, our soldiers are no longer safe.”
