An estimated 13 members of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, the Sinai Islamist group tied to al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood, were killed in a heavy bombardment by Egyptian air force fighters and helicopters early Friday on its hideouts in a village near the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid and surrounding wadis. Some Egyptian security sources report 60 missiles were fired in the heaviest bombardment ever of this kind. Many buildings were leveled or caught fire.
