Saturday morning found a few thousand Ukraine protesters quietly refusing to leave Kiev’s central square despite the deal reached by the President and opposition leaders Friday for ending the three-month crisis. The US and Russian presidents both urged its speedy implementation. President Viktor Yanukovich agreed to holding an early election by December, form a coalition government within 10 days and restore the 2004 Constitution which gave Parliament and government more powers than the president. The deal was struck the day after a violent escalation left some 70 people dead and hundreds injured. Washington announced that US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and Ass. Secy of State Victoria Nuland will visit Kiev “to help initiate implementation.”
