As the Arab League turned the screw on conditions for the US-sponsored Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to continue, US Secretary of State John Kerry left President Obama’s party and plans to meet Palestinian leader Mhamoud Abbbas in Amman Wednesday. He will also confer with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu by video phone. Abbas Tuesday gained Arab League summit endorsement of his refusal to recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people. He has threatened that if Israel does not release the last batch of 29 Palestinian security prisoners on time, i.e. on March 29, he will walk away from the peace track that Kerry has managed to keep afloat since last year. Netanyahu faces spreading demands not to free any more convicted terrorist murderers and especially not when they are Arab Israeli citizens.
