Iran’s Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi is quoted by state TV as saying the government has offered to redesign the controversial Arak reactor to produce one-fifth of the plutonium initially planned for it. Salehi said this proposal has “virtually resolved” the difficulty the West raised with the option Arak gave Iran for using plutonium produced at Arak to build a nuclear weapon. DEBKAfile: In another of his comments this week, Salehi maintained that the interim deal with the world powers placed no limits on the level of uranium enrichment allowed Iran, and it is free if it wishes to enrich uranium rom 1 percent to 90 percent purity, i.e. weapons grade. It is hard to believe that the six world powers agreed to this.
