debkafile's sources report:  Towards the end of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad first day in Lebanon Wednesday Oct. 13, a high alert was declared in the Israeli, Syrian, Lebanese armies, the Hizballah militia and the UN peacekeeping force ahead of his tour of the Lebanese-Israeli border Thursday. The Iranian president and Nasrallah both called for Israel to "disappear".  But first he announced the formation of a new anti-Israel Eastern Front encompassing Iran, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestinians and Iraq.

 More fuel was thrown on the bubbling brew surrounding Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon this week by an Al Qaeda-linked group:  "The whole of Lebanon will tremble if he sets foot there." Washington warns Americans in Lebanon to be vigilant and avoid large gatherings, and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri took off for Cairo for urgent consultations on the crisis blowing up over the visit.

US diplomat Fred Hof is due in Beirut Thursday, Oct. 7, to try and get Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon cancelled. debkafile's sources say he is too late. With six days to go, Beirut and South Lebanon up to the Israeli border are Ahmadinejad-land, taken over by an estimated 2,500 airlifted Revolutionary Guardsmen and covered in Iranian flags.

IAEA:  Iran has crossed threshold for being able to arm ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads. This news sent the NATO Secretary running to Washington, but stirred no reaction from Israel – even though Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadiinejad is preparing to visit Beirut and sign the Lebanese army up for Tehran’s forward front to defend its nuclear facilities and tie Israel's hands, debkafile's mil;itary sources report.

debkafile's Iranian sources quote President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying: "We have precise information that the Americans have devised a plot, according to which they seek to launch a psychological war on Iran. They plan to attack at least two countries in the region within the next three months," he said, without specifying which countries were the subjects of the alleged conspiracy, only hinting that Israel was directly involved.

Feverish preparations are afoot in Tehran for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's first visit to the Lebanese capital. Reporting this, debkafile's Iranian sources define the trip's purpose as a confrontational exercise to warn the US and Israel that full implementation of the tough new UN, US and European sanctions will provoke an Iranian war on Israel - waged from Lebanon. Ahmadinejad's trip is expected before September - with the Syrian and Qatari rulers in tow.

Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad assured Turkish leaders whom he met in Istanbul Tuesday, June 8 that Iranian "aid" vessels heading for Gazan waters within days will not shrink from a head-on clash with Israel.  On the Turkish-Israeli conflict, he said it would "change many issues in the world and mark the final countdown for Israel's existence."
debkafile reports Iranian and Turkish leaders agreed to synchronize the hoped-for clash with the Security Council sanctions vote - as a stunt for heading it off.

With typical provocative arrogance, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad revealed he had told the US president in a letter that Barack Obama's power and success depends on Iran and "he should start cooperating with us in practice." debkafile reveals that the Obama administration is already engaged in behind-the-scenes cooperation with Tehran in Middle East arrangements that acknowledge Iran's regional supremacy - at Israel's expense. Jerusalem has not responded.

 

Despite Tehran's denial, president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delayed his trip to Kabul by 48 hours when US defense secretary Robert Gates arrived suddenly in the Afghan capital Monday, March 8.
The Iranian president had set the scene for his visit by accusing the US of "fabricating" 9/11 as a pretext for invading Afghanistan and unveiling new missile production lines.

Ahmadinejad scripted a step-by-step performance and show of allied unity to convince Washington that Iran, Syria, Hizballah and eleven radical Palestinian groups were poised to ignite a Middle East religious war. The gambit worked - at least for now.
