DEBKAfile Exclusive Report December 24, 2015

Since the assassination of Samir Quntar Sunday, the IDF has notched up the alert level on the Golan, the Lebanese and Syrian borders and the main roads of northern Israel, in view of signs that Iranian leaders are bent on avenging not only his death, but that of his two secret Iranian controllers, who are now revealed by debkafile to have been with him at the time. Iran’s political and military elite have concluded that the rockets which struck their agent in Damascus were aimed more at Tehran than at Hizballah.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 28, 2015

Bashar Assad and Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah went all out to stir up adversity between the Druze of the Golan and Israel, and the Syrian rebel Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front. To torpedo the armistice deal brokered between them by the US, Jordan and Israel, they pumped 200 Syrian and Hizballah troops into the Druze village of Khader on the Syrian Golan, 3 km from the Israeli border. debkafile: Nusra then gave the Druze an ultimatum: stop cooperating with Syria and Hizballah or face retribution in another smaller Jabal Druze village - Skaska.

Israeli and Syrian Druze join forces - complicating Israel’s military position vis-à-vis southern Syria
DEBKAfile Special Report June 23, 2015

When Israel spokesmen stated the IDF does not assort by organization injured Syrian rebels reaching the Golan border for treatment, they found that Druze serving in Israel’s armed forces and others living in Golan villages knew better. The two groups were so incensed by such past evasions, that they came together for violent action – hence the attacks Monday, June 22, on two IDF ambulances ferrying injured Syrian rebel fighters to hospital, whom they identified as members of  the hated Al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 17, 2015

Jaysh Hermon (the Army of Hermon) Wednesday, June 17, launched a broad offensive on Syrian army forces in the Quneitra and Hermon sectors bordering on Israel, to capture the Syrian army’s 68th Brigade headquarters Khan al-Shih which commands the main Quneitra-Damascus highway, debkafile reports. Israel Must Opt between Defending Syria’s Druze against ISIS - or Accept a Refugee Flood

Israel’s Druze dilemma: To arm imperiled Syrian Druze community or open door to a flood of refugees
DEBKAfile Special Report June 11, 2015

Israel has a historic commitment to its Druze citizens and so the dangers besetting more than half a million of their distressed Syrian brethren on Jabal Druze, 88 km from its border, and 38 km from Jordan, confronts the Netanyahu government with a grave dilemma. Conceding to Israeli Druze leaders’ demand to send them arms would draw Israel out of its long abstention from direct involvement in the Syrian conflict. But refusing many thousands of Druze refugees admission, if put to flight by Islamists, is not an option, which may not be precluded anyway by sending weapons.

Iran’s power moves on another non-Sunni Middle East minority: The Druzes
DEBKAfile DEBKA Weekly April 28, 2015

Behind the failed bombing attack on an Israeli military post in the northern Golan Sunday, April 26, hangs a big story: The bomb squad belonged to a new Druze militia, which Hizballah recruited, the Iranian Al Qods Brigades armed and whose mission was assigned by a Syrian intelligence master.

The coming DEBKA Weekly out next Friday shows this event to be a microcosm of Tehran’s tactics for muscling in on Syria’s million-strong Druze minority as the lever for broader regional dominion.
