DEBKAfile Special Report November 28, 2013, 9:44 AM (GMT+02:00)
The three terrorists killed by Israeli forces in the south Hebron village Yata Tuesday, Nov. 26, belonged to the first al Qaeda cell to infiltrate the West Bank from Sinai, most likely through Jordan, debkafile reports. They came to establish a major new network for attacking Israel and the Palestinian Authority - hence the combined army, Shin Bet and special anti-terror force’s expeditious action to terminate the cell. It is feared they were the harbinger of more infiltrations by al Qaide forces embedded around Israel’s borders in Sinai, Gaza, Syria and Lebanon.

Major Israel-US rift over Washington plan to let Tehran continue enriching uranium with sanctions relief
DEBKAfile Special Report November 7, 2013, 10:12 AM (GMT+02:00)
Israel voiced early Thursday, Nov. 7, its utter opposition to the new proposal the US plans to put before the two-day Geneva conference opening later in the day on Iran’s nuclear program. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, when he met US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jerusalem Wednesday, bitterly accused the Obama administration of yielding to the Russian-backed Iranian position. Should Tehran renege on the deal, the US proposal leaves it with the capacity for enriching enough weapons-grade uranium in 10 days to build several nuclear weapons.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report October 28, 2013, 11:01 PM (GMT+02:00)
It is hard to see why Israel is going through with the release of 26 Palestinian terrorists convicted for murder when the Palestinians have slapped down on the negotiating table 16 harsh terms - first revealed here by debkafile - that will defy even US Secretary of State John Kerry’s bridging skills. Each of those demands, such as Israel’s withdrawal to the 1949 armistice lines, forgo E. Jerusalem and accept 1948 refugees, is calculated to finally stall any diplomatic solution of the Middle East dispute.

Viktor Bondarev, visiting Russian air force chief, on Tuesday, Oct. 22. debkafile: This incident, an affront to the US, will also go down as a major military intelligence fraud, because it provided cover for the discreet handover to the Russian general of a replica complete with technology of America’s most secret drone, the sophisticated RQ-170 Sentinel, a prize long coveted by Moscow.

Large Syrian forces through Tuesday night, Oct. 8, tightened the siege on the rebel-held town of Khan Arnabeh which is the key to controlling the main highway from the capital, Damascus, to the Syrian Golan. The town is expected to fall quite soon. Its capture also provides the key to the central crossroads around the Golan town of Quneitra and will enable the Syria army to return to the UN-policed disengagement zone dividing the enclave between Syria and Israel. debkafile: The rebels are putting up no more than token resistance.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report October 7, 2013, 10:20 AM (GMT+02:00)
Hizballah is surreptitiously withdrawing thousands of fighting men from Syria after an intervention for saving the Assad regime. debkafile: This withdrawal closes Tehran’s first successful experiment in fielding a surrogate force for determining the outcome of a war in an important strategic arena. Despite heavy losses, Hizballah comes out toughened by combat experience and seasoned in running regular military units in battle under combined Iranian-Syrian command. The Lebanese Shiites have won a tactical advantage over the IDF which has not faced real combat since 2006.
DEBKAfile Special Report September 27, 2013, 11:05 AM (GMT+02:00)
Thursday, Sept.26, was the day Israeli lost its freedom to use force either against the Iranian nuclear threat hanging over its head or Syria’s chemical capacity – at least, so long as Barack Obama is US president. The Iranian-Syrian-Hizballah axis is safe. The US also promises to start lifting sanctions in December if Iran admits inspectors to the Fordo enrichment plant. At the Security Council, the US finally buried the use of force against Syria’s use of chemical weapons by acceding to Russia’s demand to drop the penalty clause.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis September 10, 2013, 12:38 PM (GMT+02:00)
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon have patted themselves on the back for a balanced and cautious stance that kept Israel secure during the Syrian conflict. However, President Barack Obama’s decision Tuesday, Sept. 10 to put US military action on hold leaves Israel exposed to a second major WMD threat: Bashar Assad keeps his chemical capability intact. An international control mechanism would take a year or more to put in place and meanwhile, Assad is off the hook for a crushing assault on Aleppo.

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 9, 2013, 10:08 AM (GMT+02:00)

An array of Katyushas, Grads and Fajr-5s, with ranges of up to 70 kilometers, is now in place. That night, an Israeli anti-missile Iron Dome battery was deployed in the Jerusalem region for the first time. DEBKAfile Special Report September 1, 2013, 11:48 AM (GMT+02:00)
President Barack Obama’s about-turn Saturday night, Aug. 31 on the planned US military operation against Syria’s chemical weapons has shaken up the volatile Middle East balance of strength, giving Israel, Jordan and Turkey “a military nightmare.” By suspending the US military threat, Obama has given Iran, Syria and Hizballah the time and freedom to stage a pre-emptive strike against America and its regional allies. Israel’s authorities are taking no chances and keeping in place the military and security preparedness on the country’s Syrian and Lebanese borders.

Assad may hit back at Israel for US strike, trusting Obama to tie Israel’s hands against major reprisal
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report August 27, 2013, 3:24 PM (GMT+02:00)
There is little logic in the Netanyahu government’s public assurances that the Syrian ruler Bashar Assad would not risk a major showdown with Israel for fear of an IDF response powerful enough to overthrow his regime. debkafile: President Barack Obama would not countenance an Israeli military strike against Syria disproportionate to a US operation, or capable of endangering Assad’s rule. Assad's Russian advisers have undoubtedly briefed him on Israel’s tied hands. However, even a limited US strike is likely to spread since Syria’s allies will not stand by idly.

They agreed that the only chance of finding evidence was to examine a targeted site or injured victims. Since, the latter are unavailable, the experts hope that even after a Syrian cleanup they may turn up shell fragments however microscopic.
DEBKAfile Special Report August 25, 2013, 7:46 PM (GMT+02:00)
The US has little doubt the Syrian government used chemical weapons against civilians, a senior US official said Sunday, Aug. 25. "At this juncture, any belated regime decision to grant access to the UN team would be considered too late to be credible, including because the evidence available has been significantly corrupted.,” he said. This reaction indicated the White House had not backed away from military intervention, even after Tehran warned the US not to “cross red lines” in Syria and Moscow advised Washington to “avoid tragic mistakes.”

The four rockets striking Israel from South Lebanon Thursday, Aug. 22, were Grad 120mm rockets launched by the Jihad Islami from the Palestinian Burj Al-Shamali refugee camp near Tyre. This emerged after a stream of muddled and conflicting communiqués came from the IDF spokesman. The Jihad Islami takes its orders from Tehran and the Lebanese Hizballah. One of the rockets was intercepted by Iron Dome. None inflicted casualties, except for three shock victims, but they did cause damage to buildings and vehicles in two locations.
DEBKAfile Special Report August 20, 2013, 3:19 PM (GMT+02:00)
In one revealing sentence, Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan undid US and Israeli hard work for glossing over his radical anti-Semitic views and the bankruptcy of his Middle East policies. This time, Erdogan went so far as to accuse Israel of orchestrating Egypt’s July 3 military coup Monday, Aug. 20, in the hope of diverting attention away from his failures. debkafile: In the same breath as he stigmatized “Jewish intellectuals,” he also revealed the ruination of his Middle East ambitions and overturned Obama’s efforts for a reconciliation between Jerusalem and Ankara.
