Obama’s climb-down on Syria attack spells “military nightmare” for allies Israel, Turkey, Jordan
DEBKAfile Special Report September 1, 2013, 11:48 AM (GMT+02:00)

President Barack Obama’s about-turn Saturday night, Aug. 31 on the planned US military operation against Syria’s chemical weapons has shaken up the volatile Middle East balance of strength, giving Israel, Jordan and Turkey “a military nightmare.” By suspending the US military threat, Obama has given Iran, Syria and Hizballah the time and freedom to stage a pre-emptive strike against America and its regional allies. Israel’s authorities are taking no chances and keeping in place the military and security preparedness on the country’s Syrian and Lebanese borders.

Assad may hit back at Israel for US strike, trusting Obama to tie Israel’s hands against major reprisal
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report August 27, 2013, 3:24 PM (GMT+02:00)

There is little logic in the Netanyahu government’s public assurances that the Syrian ruler Bashar Assad would not risk a major showdown with Israel for fear of an IDF response powerful enough to overthrow his regime. debkafile: President Barack Obama would not countenance an Israeli military strike against Syria disproportionate to a US operation, or capable of endangering Assad’s rule. Assad's Russian advisers have undoubtedly briefed him on Israel’s tied hands. However, even a limited US strike is likely to spread since Syria’s allies will not stand by idly.

US rebuffs Syrian access to chemical site as “too late to be credible”
DEBKAfile Special Report August 25, 2013, 7:46 PM (GMT+02:00)

The US has little doubt the Syrian government used chemical weapons against civilians, a senior US official said Sunday, Aug. 25. "At this juncture, any belated regime decision to grant access to the UN team would be considered too late to be credible, including because the evidence available has been significantly corrupted.,” he said. This reaction indicated the White House had not backed away from military intervention, even after Tehran warned the US not to “cross red lines” in Syria and Moscow advised Washington to “avoid tragic mistakes.”

In one revealing sentence, Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan undid US and Israeli hard work for glossing over his radical anti-Semitic views and the bankruptcy of his Middle East policies. This time, Erdogan went so far as to accuse Israel of orchestrating Egypt’s July 3 military coup Monday, Aug. 20, in the hope of diverting attention away from his failures. debkafile: In the same breath as he stigmatized “Jewish intellectuals,” he also revealed the ruination of his Middle East ambitions and overturned Obama’s efforts for a reconciliation between Jerusalem and Ankara.

Headed by Mahmud Izzat Ibrahim, they set up a command center at the Gaza Beach Hotel for an uprising against the military.  It now transpires that after their election, the Brothers never dismantled their paramilitary underground and Ibrahim was the “Mr. X” who manipulated their front politicians and Supreme Guide. The Egyptian army and Israel can help each other destroy this center of resistance and beat off jihadi terror from Sinai and Gaza.

And so, the EU, with backing from Washington, gives Tehran a broad wink that a fresh round of nuclear diplomacy is worth their while now that Israel is on the run in the settlements-cum-borders dispute.
