DEBKAfile Special Report July 15, 2017
Pressure on Israel from the Arab world to reopen Temple Mount and its mosques for Muslim prayer without delay has been strongly countered by the Israeli police and security authorities. They need more time to complete their investigation of the scene of the terror attack, Friday, July 14, in which two Israeli officers on guard were shot dead and a third injured. Nevertheless, the site will be reopened Sunday – albeit in stages.

Israeli security officials and experts have been trying hard to blunt the impact of the terrorist shooting attack on Friday, July 14 at the Lion’s Gate entrance to Temple Mount, in which two Israeli border police officers were murdered and a third injured. However, this event has extraordinary broad and grave resonance – even for Jerusalem which had – and still has – more than its share of terror.

Initial interrogation of the five detained accomplices of Natash Melhem, the triple Tel Aviv murderer who died in a gunfight Friday, Jan 8, revealed that they were part of an Islamic State cell. The special police force which ran him to earth told him to surrender and shot him dead when he opened fire. Disabling rather than killing shots might have left a living source of information on what was clearly a meticulously planned terror attack by a gunman with a support team. So why did the Yamam marksmen choose to kill him instead of injuring him and taking him alive?
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report January 7, 2016
The mountainous quantities of illegal weapons, run-of-the-mill and exotic, in the hands of Israeli Arabs have grown to unmanageable proportions. No Israeli civilian police, or even military force, has the scale of manpower required to mount raids in Israeli Arab population centers for a comprehensive campaign to impound them.

Saturday night Jan. 2, Israeli police and security services knew everything about the terrorist-gunman who Friday sprayed automatic bullets on passersby on Tel Aviv’s favorite recreation street, killing two people and injuring eight – except where to find him. He was identified as Nashat Melhem, 29, from the Israeli Arab village of Ar’arah in the eastern Wadi Ara district. The gag order for the investigation was extended to the evidently related murder of a tax driver near the Tel Aviv beach to hide his getaway route..

Police spokesman admitted Friday night that their investigation was still wide open. debkafile: Aside from the Koran clue, there are two pointers: ISIS Thursday posted a Twitter message in fractured Hebrew warning “Tomorrow there will be an attack on Dizengoff St,” and at the Palestinian Ain Hilwa refugee camp in Lebanon, the attack had its first response in celebratory gunfire and jubilation. Jihadist organizations linked to the Islamic State have taken over much of the camp. An Israeli Arab has meanwhile identified his son as the shooter.

After the first shooting in the current wave of Palestinian terror, three deaths and 27 injured victims in one day, Israeli hospitals were put on emergency footing Tuesday, Oct. 13, for the potential contingency of multiple casualties. Hospitals, especially in Jerusalem, are already facing a rise in emergency admissions as a result of terrorist attacks. The government introduced new anti-terror measures.

Binyamin Netanyahu and Moshe Ya’alon seemed to believe that an order to Jewish cabinet ministers and Knesset members Thursday, Oct. 8, to stop visiting Temple Mount would be the winning step for de-escalating the current Palestinian rock-throwing, firebomb and stabbing rampage. They were wrong. No sooner was the order released than it became a boomerang. Israeli Arab lawmakers announced that they would visit Temple Mount and Al Aqsa regardless. And two stabbing attacks followed in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis October 7, 2015
After the Israeli cabinet launched measures Tuesday, Oct. 6, for “strengthening anti-terror defense” – such as cameras in the sky - and officials labored to spread word that the surge of Palestinian violence of the past week was beginning to ebb, Israel was hit that night from the offside by a vicious pro-Palestinian upheaval in the Tel Aviv suburb of Jaffa. This was part of the backlash for Netanyahu’s “calm and responsible” approach to Palestinian terror, which mutinous ministers are calling “soft” and which Palestinians regard as Israeli weakness.
DEBKAfile Special Report July 5, 2014
In less than a week, Israel is trapped in a maelstrom of violence arising from the Netanyahu government laxness after the traumatic discovery on July 30 of the bodies of the Israeli teenagers, Gil-Ad Shaer, Naftali Fraenkel and Eyal Yifrach, kidnapped and slain by Hamas. Two days later, a Palestinian boy, Muhammad Abu Khdeir, was found murdered in Jerusalem, sparking Arab riots amid scores of rockets from Gaza. “Quiet will be met with quiet,” was Israel’s feeble message to Hamas as the IDF, a highly competent counter-terror force, stood idly by.

Shelly Dadon, 20, from Afulah, was murdered Thursday, May 1, in a wood near the northern town of Migdal Haemek by a gang of Israeli Arabs belonging to “The Galilee Liberators.” She died of savage multiple stabs to her upper torso. The killers planted clues to broadcast their affiliation, which the police have played down ahead of Israel’s Independence Day events. This organization’s victims included the IDF soldier Oleg Shaychat and Dana Bennett in 2003 and Yofim Weinstein in 2009, amid its collaboration with Palestinian and Hizballah terrorists.
