They died while extracting TNT from a 107mm shell. Among the three wounded was the Jund al-Sham leader, Shehadeh Jawhar.
Two Lebanese soldiers were killed in the fifth week of fierce fighting with pro-Damascus Islamist radicals in the N. Lebanese Nahr al-Bared camp.
Since the weekend, the army has destroyed or seize at least six main Fatah al-Islam positions and continues to pound buildings. The battle has left 140 dead, including 73 Lebanese troops.

The blast which ripped through Beirut's waterfront Manara district also killed Eido's two bodyguards and injured scores of civilians. Eido belonged to the ruling party headed by Saad Hariri, whose father, former prime minister Rafiq Hariri, was murdered in similar circumstances in 2005. An international tribunal has been set up to prosecute the crime's suspected perpetrators, including members of the Syrian Assad regime.

A Fatah al-Islam leader, Abu Masaab, told the Arabic daily Asharq Alawsat in a telephone interview that Shahine Shahine, a Saudi, has taken over the leadership of the group following the "disappearance" of its leader Shaker Abssi and his deputy Abu Hureira. Shahine pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda.

A military helicopter is reported to have bombed Palestinian radical positions at the edge of the Nahr al-Bared camp Saturday for the first time in two weeks of fighting. Three Lebanese soldiers were killed. Friday, June 1, 18 people were killed, two of them soldiers. The Lebanese troops seized positions on the northern and eastern edges of the camp after several hours of artillery and tank fire. Fatah al-Islam confirmed the loss of some positions and two dead.

debkafile's military sources report that Friday, May 25, the first cargoes of American advanced weapons, ammunition and special anti-terror combat systems landed in Beirut to boost the Lebanese army's bid to subdue the radical Fatah al-Islam uprising in the Palestinian Nahr al-Bared refugee camp near Tripoli.
Our sources add that the scale of this military aid injection is extensive. For the first time, Arab and Gulf governments are overtly taking a direct hand in US warfare against al Qaeda in the Middle East. Jordanian air transports are also carrying assistance in the form of officers and instructors of the kingdom's special forces and intelligence.

Lebanese PM vowed Thursday to eradicate terrorists in the northern Palestinian camp of Nahr al-Bared. Speaking over national TV Thursday, Fouad Siniora he pledged not to attack civilians, "our Palestinian brothers."
Earlier, the Lebanese army sank two small boats in which the Islamists were escaping the besieged camp. The new French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner is due in Beirut Thursday.
