DEBKAfile Exclusive Report January 28, 2016
Mahmoud Abbas is dancing for the first time with Hizballah. He has taken up the proposal to set up militias in Lebanon’s Palestinian refugee camps, partly modeled on the deal he is discussing with the Israeli government for militias in Jerusalem’s Palestinian suburbs and camps.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report December 10, 2015
The Palestinian Authority headed by Mahmoud Abbas has long been dysfunctional. Although John Kerry still treats him as a partner for peace talks, Egyptian and Jordanian rulers treat him with contempt, which is why President El-Sisi slapped down a three-point ultimatum for Abbas to get his act together, or else…
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report November 26, 2015
The Iranian, Hizballah investment in training and funding Palestinian terror groups backfired in Beirut on Nov. 13, when Palestinian suicide bombers blew up a Hizballah district in Beirut on behalf of ISIS.
DEBKAfile Special Report November 19, 2015
All five murders perpetrated by Palestinian terrorists in Tel Aviv and on the Hebron highway on Thursday, Nov. 19, led back to the Hebron district of the southern West Bank. The current wave of terror is earning the title of “The Hebron Intifada.” While anti-Jewish violence has been endemic to the region since 1929, the current wave was sparked by internal Palestinian strife. It is being exploited by Hebron’s clan chiefs to further their aspirations to seize the Palestinian leadership from Ramallah.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis August 2, 2015
Israeli leaders and media indulged in knee-jerk responses - ‘We’re all to blame” and “”We all ignited the flames” - to two separate, individual Jewish hate crimes, repulsive though they were. Israelis universally condemned the crimes, but that should have been a far cry from collective self-flagellation and loud laments that “The whole house is on fire.” The whole house is not on fire and we are not all guilty, although this was the message President Reuven Rivlin offered the nation Saturday night, July 1, in an outpouring of raw emotion instead of constructive remedies.

Exclusive: Obama to back Palestinian state at Security Council – payback for Israel’s right-wing cabinet
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report May 6, 2015
debkafile exclusive from Washington: President Barack Obama is to give Europe a green light to file a UN Security Council motion proclaiming an independent Palestinian state. Without waiting for Binyamin Netanyahu to present his new government at midnight Wednesday, May 6, Obama decided to punish him for building a right-wing coalition, minus a moderate figure for talks with the Palestinians. French President Francois Hollande and US Secretary of State John Kerry have already briefed Saudi and Gulf rulers on Obama’s new policy.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report April 8, 2015
Obama’s detente with Iran and recognition of Bashar Assad’s key role in Syria has produced an incredibly sinister new twist in the Syrian war. debkafile reveals: The Yarmouk refugee camp and its 16,000 occupants face not one enemy, but two: the Islamic State and Assad’s army, which opened the way for the ISIS attack. Assad first agreed to split energy revenues with ISIS and went on to outsource the terrorists for a demonstration in Yarmouk to allies and foes alike that he holds the whip hand in the Syrian war and the fate of the Palestinians.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report March 19, 2015
Israel is bracing for US penalties after Netanyhau’s re-election for a fourth term and refusal to go along with Obama’s policies on Iran and the Palestinians.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis March 14, 2015
Yitzhak Herzog, co-leader of the opposition Zionist Camp party, is tabbed by the polls as Binyamin Netanyahu’s credible successor. However, the same credibility does not extend to his four pledges to the voter ahead of the March 17 election - though sincere. If elected, Herzog vowed in his first 100 days as prime minister to lead the campaign to bring down the prohibitive cost of housing; mend Israel’s relations with the United States, i.e. Barack Obama; revive peace talks with the Palestinians; and create a “regional platform” for Israel’s foreign relations.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report March 10, 2015
Acting on direct orders from Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian special forces raided all nine PA-ruled West Bank towns in the past 48 hours and detained 500 Hamas suspects, debkafile reports. Abbas ordered the operation because he had discovered that Hamas had been hatching a plot for some weeks to stage an armed uprising against the Palestinian Authority, starting in one of the Palestinian towns – possibly even the PA capital of Ramallah – and assassinate him in the process.
DEBKAfile Special Report December 31, 2014
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ motion to dictate a timeline for Israel’s withdrawal to pre-1967 lines and a Palestinian state was defeated at the UN Security Council. Had it mustered the mandatory 9 votes, it would still have been vetoed by the US. Its re-submission next year in the hope of a more pro-Palestinian Security Council lineup will be just as problematic. So will Abbas’ threat to bring Israel before the international court for alleged war crimes. For Prime Minister Netanyahu, the vote was a campaign coup against his rivals' charge that he leads Israel into diplomatic isolation.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report July 19, 2014
The outcome of Israel’s Gaza operation may be determined just as much by its unseen battle as by hammering Hamas infrastructure and destroying more than a dozen Hamas terrorist tunnels and infrastructure by Saturday morning, July 19, the 12th day of its fight against Hamas. This battle can’t be fought just with sophisticated high-tech gadgetry. Only “boots on the ground” can provide eyes and ears among the local populace, and the cover for agents trained to operate in an Arab environment to gather the information needed for charting the IDF's moves.
DEBKAfile Special Report July 2, 2014
Israel’s security cabinet still looked undecided on July 2 after its third special session in two days to map out a response to the kidnapping-murder of Eyal Yifrach, Gil-Ad Shaer and Naftali Frenkel. But debkafile’s sources report a decision was in fact reached: to hold back from a major military operation in the Gaza Strip, while continuing the IDF’s anti-Hamas campaign on the West Bank - a course strongly urged by Egypt, Qatar and Jordan. The result: unbridled violence in Jerusalem after a Palestinian boy was murdered and 30 rockets launched from Gaza.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 5, 2014
The new Palestinian unity government leaves Hamas with major sources of power, including militia, weaponry, Gaza port, and civilian posts. Some worry Hamas is attempting to do what Hizballah has done in Lebanon and overtake Fatah and the PA.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 5, 2014
A small Hizballah force took up position Thursday, June 5, on the Syrian side of the Quneitra crossing directly opposite the IDF’s Golan deployment, debkafile reports exclusively. This was the first known instance of a Hizballah unit setting foot on the Golan. Intelligence observers reckon it may be the vanguard for a sizeable force on the way to break the stalemate reached by the Syrian army and rebels in their month-long battle for the town of Quneitra. Assad and Hizballah’s Nasrallah attach high strategic importance to keeping the town under Damascus control.
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 3, 2014
The US-EU decision to continue funding the Hamas-backed Palestinian government is a landmark: For the first time, the US and Europe will be bankrolling an organization they have listed as terrorist, as well as its armed militia, the Ezz e-Din al-Qassam. debkafile: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s comment that he is “deeply troubled” underscores his government’s disarray over this development. Tuesday, June 3, he confided to advisers that he will not make the mistake made by his predecessor Ehud Olmert and let Palestinian elections take place, knowing Hamas will sweep the board.
DEBKAfile Special Report June 2, 2014
The US will work with and send aid to the new Palestinian government despite Israel's concerns, US Secretary of State John Kerry informed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Monday, after Mahmoud Abbas sealed his partnership with Hamas by swearing in their shared government in Ramallah. The EU echoed the US decision. Both therefore brushed off Netanyahu’s call to shun the new government for co-opting a terrorist organization. Israel warned the new government would be responsible for rocket fire out of Gaza, and punitive steps were pending..
