After 150 Hamas rockets, IDF high command weighs full-scale operation against Hamas

The IDF General Command conferred Wednesday night, Aug. 8, on a full-scale military operation against Hamas after it launched a non-stop barrage of 150 rockets against Israel. The town of Sderot took four direct hits and 8 injured casualties. Iron Dome intercepted four. The others landed in the Eshkol, Shear Hanegev and Hof Ashkelon councils, most on open ground. However, a dozen people were taken to hospital with trauma symptoms as the sirens blared hour after hour.  Israel’s air strikes targeted a factory for tunnel components, a marine terror tunnel on the shore, various military compounds including a facility for manufacturing rockets and other weapons,  as well as a central logistic depot. Residents of the communities within 7km of the Gaza Strip were ordered to stay in fortified quarters. Children’s summer camps on the Thursday will take place only in premises with shelters.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the IDF General Command meeting urgently Wednesday night has little option but to launch a full-scale military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This would necessitate a ground incursion. It was decided to keep the operation as short as possible, the main goal being to push Hamas back from the Israel border and deliver a blow painful enough for the terrorists to beg for a ceasefire. IDF chiefs hope that this will cure Hamas leaders of the belief that they can dictate the rules of the game, as it has done so far. The generals are taking into account that the rocket barrage will spread across other parts of Israel in the course of the operation. The General Command conference continued into Wednesday night.

    G-D give the IDF wisdom.

Bad Idea to launch anything ; Many casualties on both sides are inevitable. Better to send envoy to talk or settle the nerves .

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 2:54 at 2:54

Negotiations never bring peace; they only delay the inevitable while tensions always continue to rise. Eventually enough pressure builds and conflicts continue to occur.
        Peace comes through military victory.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 18:49 at 18:49

Works out GREAT. Like the man said, peace only comes through a strong deterrent. All this history of giving up land for the prospect of peace is pure weakness. It just doesn’t work.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 19:57 at 19:57

Foolish answer. If Israel WANTED TO it could obliterate Hamas and every Jew-hating Arab in Gaza. The fact that it doesn’t isn’t due to weakness; it’s due to morality. Jews are not murderers, Arabs are. Be careful what you wish for because one day even nice guys take off their gloves.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 2:59 at 2:59

        Israel needs to destroy Hamas.
This will take a prolonged, house-to-house ground operation. Afterwards the “palestinians” need to be deported to Jordan. Israel can then focus its attention on the northern front.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 16:00 at 16:00

Really? the Gaza strip and the west bank is not Israeli land actually nor this the land where Israel sits right now for that matter?

          • Aug 9, 2018 @ 18:51 at 18:51

You know its all Israeli – by intl law and convention dating all the way back to 1920, by historical and religious precedent, and by the Geneva Convention and conventions on military conflict which permit actions by a sovereign state to enact peace and security. So basically anything Israel does to ensure peace is permitted, including the blockade which the UN deemed in 2012 to be “legal and justified”.

The failed Pally experiment of anti-Israel illegal economic migrant Arabs is coming to a swift end.

          • Aug 9, 2018 @ 19:54 at 19:54

            That’s funny cj2317,
You seem to be blind from historical facts
When Gaza was owned by Egypt from 1948-67 did they give the Pali’s recognition?
When the West Bank was owned by Jordan (Trans Jordan) from 1948-67 did they give the Pali’s recognition?
When The Ottoman empire controlled this entire region for 400 years – did they recognise the Pali’s? – The Turkish didn’t even give them a rock let alone a homeland.

Debka, you desperately need to get a new commenting system. The one you have is glitchy and VERY user-unfriendly.
Please don’t ignore this. I’ve seen other posts saying the same. We are your faithful followers and deserve better.

I would be willing to bet this latest instigation has it’s ties back to Tehran. With Iran creeping closer to a real Crisis of governance, the distraction of a large scale IDF operation in Gaza is exactly what the Iranian government needs. If it happens, I would not be surprised to see the IRGC use the cover of the world condemning Israel for it’s actions in Gaza to crush the protestors in Iran. 2009 all over again.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 5:39 at 5:39

          Mr. Gray is 100% Right.

Debka, you have MANY FRIENDS who are trying to help you and fight battles in the cybersphere, but the software that runs this website rejects comments for reasons unknown to us.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 3:05 at 3:05

If everyone who is a regular visitor to this website would ask Debka to replace its commenting system they might make improvements.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 8:59 at 8:59

Yes, every submission is followed by an error message. I like the fsct that Debka does not use intermediary comment systems like Facebook, Google and the others because they are moving to censor content and to control our thoughts like Big Brother (and we do not want to give them the power to decide who says what, when and how). However, Debka needs to get the bugs out of its current system.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 3:06 at 3:06

If everyone who is a regular visitor to this website would ask Debka to replace its commenting system they might make improvements.
In this day and age there’s no excuse for such a primitive, glitchy program.

        • Aug 9, 2018 @ 9:42 at 9:42

Part of the problem is the reCaptcha system which is ambiguous, slow, unnecessarily picky and unclear. Find a better piece of software because that is crap.

Debka, in the media spotlight, are showing the world that Israeli technolgy is not good. As a billboard for Israeli technology you should listen up and get busy making the necessary fixes.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 9:40 at 9:40

What? “many casualties on both sides”? “Talking to settle nerves”? You talk shit. No, its more like a handful of Israelis and hundreds of fakeys and ‘civilians’ will die. Just so the world can howl at Israel.. THAT’S WHY its not a “good idea”. But don’t worry – eventually when the big war starts no one will notice gaza being sorted out properly – as Israel will have its hands full – and will just wipe the place as it should have a long time ago.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 15:52 at 15:52

Hamas will not stop firing rockets until they are taken out by force. That is the only thing they understand.

      • Aug 9, 2018 @ 16:13 at 16:13

We don’t care about both sides. We care about our side. The goal should be zero casualties on our side and scores on theirs. The UN will assume the cost of the funeral arrangements.

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 7:21 at 7:21

Right , Wisdom is described as something you want against a wishful thinking . The difference between Wise man /woman and Smart man/woman , is that Wise one sees trouble and avoids getting in it , while Smart one sees it , and gets into it , but does not know how to get out . Israel and its government rulers are staled smart type . They outlived their political right to rule, and have no solutions to anything . Bibi soon will rule around 20 years , and while having good years , he did outlive its life cycle, Same old , same old . He did not even prepped anyone to take over ..Even coalition did not see anything new , thieves running around making believe , that they contribute to well being of population . They should move all the Knesset to local penitentiary, since that is where all the members of Knesset belong.Total dislocation with reality .

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 20:21 at 20:21

You need little wisdom to stop this drama.
For some reason the government wants it to go on. The question is why…

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 22:39 at 22:39

Israel of course has many challenges to face, Gaza and Hamas, Lebanon and Hezbollah, the Golan, with Iranian and Hezbollah in disguise. There is the West Bank of course. Movement in one direction can prompt sympathetic responses from other enemies against Israel. First step if Israel acts alone is to eliminate Hamas as a governing force in Gaza, and run any terrorists to the ground. Then if the Palestinian authority does not step in to lead, Israel may want to consider deporting all of the Gazan’s to the West Bank with compensation.

That will free up Gaza for Jewish settlements, and eliminate another front from the on going cold war. Next step is to deadline the Palestinian Authority to recognize Israel, halt all war like activities from their soil. Failure to do so will result in their mandate being stripped and replaced by a government favorable to peace. That could take many forms and come from a variety of sources: the Palestinian’s themselves, Israel, or Jordan.

The missile capabilities of Hezbollah are an existential threat to Israel. These need to be eliminated, an ideal partner may be the US which has a blood debt owed to it. This then exposes Iran in Syria, hastening the overthrow of their government in Iran, as casualties would mount. Israel should take all steps to eliminate nodes of control and logistics the Iranian’s are setting up.

The ultimate destination for Gazan’s and West Bank terrorists may need to be Syria, thus confining the ground conflict to one direction.

Let the Hamas have it big time and don’t even think about cease fire. Pound them until the job is done. There is a time for peace and a time for war. This is clearly a time for war. And I would finish by saying to all the boots on the ground, in the IDF: May the Hand of Hashem bless you and strengthen you for the battle and may He go with you!

As the late General Lewis(Chesty)Puller told one marine Lieutenant about to go into a village in Korea: “if they give you any s@#$, level the place.” What is the state of Israel waiting for?

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 1:30 at 1:30

How’d that work out for y’all in Korea?

      • Aug 10, 2018 @ 17:58 at 17:58

It worked out well, thanks for asking??

South Korea is now a strong ally and a leading modern country. By comparison, DPRK (North) is still an ass backward third world dictatorship puppet regime. The bitterness all stems from those realities – Democratic system brings improved quality of life, communist system oppresses freedom and economic growth.

It is a vital israeli interest to keep Hamas floating and in control in Gaza. The reason is old roman principle divide and rule. Fall of Hamas and return of Palestinian Authority to Gaza means establishment of Palestinian State without consent of Israel supported by EU, Canada, UK, all muslim countries and most of countries in UN. With Hamas ruling in Gaza no such country is possible without civil palestinian war.
Still there is a lot of possibilities to punish Hamas and Islamic Jihad Ft without killing them all.

The only diplomacy that should be used with Hmass is the diplomacy of NAKBA.

The entire Hamass leadership needs to be sent to 72 virgins paradise.

I think there are enough disgruntled “palestinians” who want REVENGE against the Hamass swine.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 0:37 at 0:37

The IDF ALWAYS gets it wrong in Gaza. Every action SCREAMS weakness. Liberman and Eisenkot need to be replaced immediately! What would Trump do?!!!
MAGA! (MAKE GAZA GREAT AGAIN) by terminating top 25 Hamasniks.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 0:39 at 0:39

Also, bomb or level bulldozing ALL sites of Hamas in West Bank!

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 0:48 at 0:48

Well, come on then, what are you waiting for?

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 0:56 at 0:56

No need for boots on the ground. Massive air campaign until either Gaza is levelled or surrenders unconditionally.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 1:06 at 1:06

What the hell is the meaning of ‘WEIGHS’? There is NO ‘weighing’ any options here. Bomb them back to the stone age and beyond! The world is silent when they see Israel getting attacked. They will be ‘bitching and moaning’ when Israel responds. Screw them all.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 1:15 at 1:15

Squashing a few worker ants won’t do much.
Create a buffer zone inside Gaza may be better

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 6:03 at 6:03

Make that a 2 – 3 Km buffer zone. When the fire bombs and rockets start landing in Israel again, enlarge the buffer zone another 2 -3 Km …, …, … When things get crowded on the coast, the UN and EU can barge them up the coast to Syria…

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 2:12 at 2:12

Stop this liberal pussy footing around. This will keep repeating without them being taught a lesson they will not forget. Israel will get the same blame if you kill one or thousand.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 3:07 at 3:07

If Palestinians deny a truce deal, they might have some trump card we might not be aware of.
For the time being, we better sit and talk.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 4:05 at 4:05

The problem is that too many of Israel’s leaders are mentally crippled by their godless liberal ideology. They can’t conceive of any possible outcome to the conflict other than a negotiated peace agreement, despite the enemy’s clear and unequivocal stance that they will never make peace. They consider themselves far too moral to actually kill the people who are trying to murder them, unless it’s an act of self defense during an actual act of attempted murder, and even then they often hesitate. When faced with any decision, instead of asking what the Almighty demands of them, they ask what the nations demand of them. Right now, Hamas can launch all the missiles and firebombs they want, and the instant they say they’re ready for a truce, Israel immediately stops all actions against them. Only when Israel fears God more than it fears Man will it be able to defeat its adversaries.

    • Aug 9, 2018 @ 5:16 at 5:16

Martin you are right. I also came to the same conclusion. The Israeli leadership should be replaced. They have to act more “German” to the Arabs and then they would solve the problem.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 5:11 at 5:11

The IDF should target all Hamas’s leaders mansions hopefully with their family’s inside.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 5:13 at 5:13

It looks like the Israeli high command still does not understand the game Hamas/Iran is playing with them. Israel must and should invade the Gaza strip an kill all the terrorists, all 40,000 and reoccupy the Gaza strip. Then you will have peace. They should also tell the Europeans to shut up and tend to their own muslim problems in Europe.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 5:54 at 5:54

No self- respecting country allows itself to be bombarded and terrorized indefinately. The Terrorstinians have over the past 70+ years made it clear that they want nothing but war. Give them what they have been demanding and give it to them good. I think that Israel should develop a very inexpensive and effective miniature missile to deliver in great quantities. Israel concentrates on shields but they need to upgrade their offensive arsenol as well.

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 8:51 at 8:51

Hamas is the largest of several Palestinian Anti-Israeli Militant Islamist Terrorist Groups. Its name is an Arabic Acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement, originating as it did in 1987 after the beginning of the 1st Intifada against Israel’s Creation, West Bank, Gaza Strip Settlements. The short term goal of Hamas was to liberate Palestine, including modern-day Israel, from Israeli occupation. The long-term aim sought to establish an Islamic State from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea eliminating Israel.

Khaled Mashal is a Palestinian political leader and the leader of the Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas since the Israeli assassination of Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi in 2004. Fatah is secular and operates in the Palestinian Territories. Hamas is extremist Sunni affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and operates in the Palestinian Territories. Hezbollah is extremist Shi’a and operates worldwide, although based in Lebanon does some fighting in Syria. Hamas is backed by the Gulf States.

Since January 1, 2018 here are the Dates Hamas as Attack Israel:
    January 1
Around 9pm, two rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel. One fell short in Gaza, The other in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council.
    January 3
Between 2pm and 9pm, four rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel. They all both landed in open areas in the Eshkol Regional Council.
    February 2
At exactly 12am, one rocket was fired from Gaza at Israel. The IDF did not confirm if it landed within Israeli territory. Around 9pm, one rocket was fired from Gaza at Israel. It landed in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council.
    February 17
Around 9pm, Multiple rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel. One landed on a house in Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.
    February 18
Around 10pm, one rocket was fired from Gaza at Israel. It landed in an open area in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.
    May 29
On May 29, there were 70 rockets and mortars fired at Israel.
    June 3
On June 3, 3 rockets were fired into southern Israel from Gaza the rockets were intercepted by Iron Dome.
    June 18
On June 18, 3 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza.
    June 20
Hamas fired off 45 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza.
    June 27
On June 27, 13 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza. 3 were intercepted by Iron Dome.
    July 14
Hamas fired off 174 rockets or mortar shells were fired into Israel from Gaza. 30 were intercepted by Iron Dome.
    August 8-9
On August 8-9, 150 rockets were fired at Israel, 2 were intercepted, 4 impacted open areas, and 2 landed in Sderot causing damage and 2 injuries.

Hamas has no chance against Israel. They try their best to kill as many Jews as possible but thanks to the IDF and Other Israeli security services they are generally ineffective. Israel should deprive Hamas members of their prime source of income, which is UNRWA, the largest employer of Hamas in Gaza. The people who organize and participate in current riots on the Gaza fences, are UNRWA employees – 20,000 proud members of Hamas who control the UNRWA workers association and the UNRWA teachers association since 1999, all of whom incite for a mass invasion of Israel under the slogan of the “right of return by force of arms”

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 9:01 at 9:01

    Retake the Gaza strip

  • Aug 9, 2018 @ 9:44 at 9:44

Kill the Gazans and re-take the land. There is no other choice. You are fighting demonic forces that won’t stop until they are killed. The demons, thus deprived of their human hosts, will be forced to leave. Israeli farmers could restore that land to useful productivity.

I just don’t understand if the iron dome is capable of calculating where the rocket is going to land, calculating its origin should be a lot easier. If you know the origin send a tomahawk or similar misile and take out the launcher instead of wasting time and money while intercepting the barrage coming from that source.

Such a limited operation will accomplish nothing, except more headlines of poor pitiful murdered pregnant women and little, crippled children. What it will not do is actually hurt Hamas or change their minds about the continuing war against Israel, for that is what this is.
The only solution available is a full-scale invasion and a long-term occupation of the entire area. Search out and eliminate all military supplies and workshops. Detain the leadership. Disrupt the military forces. Otherwise, this will just keep building and provide a second (or third) front against Israel in the next major war.

Cowardly Hypocrites: Israeli leadership these days….
And the ayatollahs are watching, and are encouraged by the IDF apparent, do-nothing impotence with their own nefarious plans !

This is a joke but its not funny!! Sad state of paralysis. They turned themselves into a David and they turned Bibi into a big teddy bear!!! They are defining you!! The worse political position you can ever be in.
If Antebe were to happen today, the whole world would turn against you.
    What’s wrong with that picture?
You have been playing all sides of the fence for way too long. You just cannot have your cake and eat it. Gotta act, have to regain your image. This slide started with Arafat’s sling shots, and now evolved to kites and rockets. If you do not stop digging down that hole, it will consume you. You can talk about your strength and might all you want. They succeeded in making you into a loud mouth midget.
Too bad. Beautiful people, wonderful spirit. It is being broken little at a time.
