Cheney vows to “stand with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating this region”
The US Vice president Dick Cheney spoke aboard the USS John Stennis, one of two aircraft carriers stationed in the Persian Gulf Friday, adding: We’re sending a message to friends and adversaries alike. On Iraq, which Cheney visited Thursday, he declared: “We want to complete the mission, get it done right and return with honor.” Saturday, the vice president stops at Saudi Arabia and goes on to Egypt and Jordan.
Between 3,500 and 4,000 of the carrier’s 5,000 sailors and Marines stood in sweltering heat to hear Cheney speak.
“It’s not easy to serve in this part of the world. It’s a place of tension and many conflicts,” said the vice president.
