Israel opts out of US-EU anti-Russian expulsions, its intelligence finds novichok stocks in 20 countries

Israel was not among the 24 Western governments that expelled more than 100 Russian diplomats Monday over the poisoning of a former Russian spy in the UK. It is said to be the largest collective expulsion of Russian intelligence officers in history. The Israeli government was moved by three considerations:

  1. A secret Israeli intelligence report to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and defense minister Avigdor Lieberman revealed that although the military-grade chemical agent used to poison Sergei Skripal and his daughter was originally produced in Soviet Russia, today at least 20 other governments are manufacturing and stockpiling the illicit chemical agent.
  2. Last week, Israel tried to determine US President Donald’s position on UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s appeal to allies for active retaliation against Moscow. This was important in view of Israel’s relations with Moscow and its interaction with the Russian commanders in Syria. The answer reaching Jerusalem from the White House was vague and noncommittal.
  3. The US president’s sudden decision to expel 60 Russian diplomats and close the Seattle consulate, after weeks of avoiding explicitly naming Moscow as the culprit of the attack, is believed by our sources to be related to the drive for a US-European understanding on how to address the future of the Iranian nuclear accord. This drive is still ongoing and Israel is still awaiting its outcome. This week, two senior European foreign ministers called on the Israeli prime minister in Jerusalem to present their case on this issue – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The coming DEBKA Weekly out on Friday, March 30, discusses the sudden US turnabout on the spy poisoning affair and how it bears on the consolidation of a NATO front in relation to Iran.  To subscribe click here.

      @Steve,

      Judea and Sumeria have belonged to the Jewish people as part of Israel for well over 3000 years and the archaeology and surviving texts prove it, so what “Jewish settlements” are you talking about?

      No. If anything its for three (3) reasons –

      1. The UK does not support Israel, especially over the settlements which are within Israeli territory – and as with ALL claims of sovereignty, held by the holder, until ultimately someone with a BETTER army declares differently. And even in that instance, its highly unlikely that that country would still actually exist after such an event.

      2. The Russian presence in syria is clearly a complicating factor for Israel. Especially now, Israel needs to have all channels of communication open so it can best deal with the very dynamic situation it must deal with. The UK isn’t going to help Israel with any of that. So why show solidarity with those that scorn you?

      3. Given that (according to the report), Israeli intelligence knows of many other countries with this poison, there is at this time, no conclusive proof that Russia was actually behind this attack.

Its representative Heather Nauert reported that: 1) To improve relations and start a dialogue with the US, Russia must “take responsibility for poisoning Skrypal and stop reckless aggressive behavior”; 2) Russia has many tentacles, it is a deep-sea monster. 3) No, she does not have evidence of Russia’s guilt in the Skripal case. But there is evidence for sure.@

    I agree that Israel has a situation where they need to keep close contact with and watch over Russia whether it is an enemy of Israel or friend at this time. Russia has always been hostile towards Israel in Russia’s choice of supporting and aligning with villainous terror groups and Islamist fascist countries at war with Israel.

    Most of the European countries are expelling just one diplomat as a symbolic gesture so they are really showing no courage and conviction against the stupid cold-war era antics of a “Pukin” dictatorship trying to be a Soviet Union with murder and war.

    I want Israel to make clear to Russia that their current path is wrong and to engage them in the process of pushing Iran back because that is the biggest problem today. The US can now work through Israel to get Russia to put an end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions and conquest in the region. Islamists like the Islamic State of Iran are only friends of convenience for Pukin in a world where everyone is out for himself.

      Jeremy Corbyn longs for the days of the Soviet Union when a commy was a commy. Corbyn is for everything that goes against the West and he is also for everything that helps Islamists because hard leftists love Islamists who share their goals and some of their tactics.

      Israel has its own foreign policy which is separate from that of the USA. This is one example of where it is better for Israel to keep all doors open because there are many wars raging on Israel’s borders and the war in Syria is being orchestrated by Russia.

      All countries in the Muslim world are at war with Israel – terror wars and propaganda wars (based on the tenets of the Islamic religion which contain many aspects of antisemitism). It is best to keep talking to Russia because the alternative is not good. Israel must make sure that Russia understands that it is in Russia’s best interest to keep the Islamic State of Iran away from Israel forever.

      The British are concerned about Pukin as they should be…the British also ought to be concerned about the spread of Islamism in Britain-EU-World, in the security of Israel which they cheated as they left the region at war with Jews and rewarding the Islamists with another country carved out of the remains of the “British Mandate.” The British do not support Israel because they like to suck up to rich Muslims and they are happy to throw Jews under the bus and so they support a fake people (Terrorstinians) who have created the myth of several millions when, in fact, there are only 20k remaining displaced people who left Israel to wage war on Jews – a war they lost but have been using violence to take revenge ever since. Britain is one of the countries which supports this violence in the name of jihad and now it is coming to bite them on their delicate asses.
