Karzai wants foreign military operations and air strikes in Afghanistan to end

The Afghan president Hamid Karzai said foreign forces should concentrate on the terrorists’ bases and source of training and money – a veiled reference to neighboring Pakistan. He demanded an immediate end to foreign troops’ searches of people’s houses without government authorization.
In Washington, defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld agreed that air strikes are less effective than they were. The count has started of ballots from Sunday’s parliamentary elections, the first in Afghanistan in 30 years.
