12-year-old Australian suspected of involvement in terrorism
A federal court in Sydney has identified a 12-year-old Australian Muslim as one of those suspected of helping a 15-year-old Australian Muslim shoot a police officer earlier this month. The assailant, who shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he carried out the crime, was shot and killed by another policeman.
"We're shocked that a 12-year-old is on police radar for these types of matters," Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said, adding that the threat has become younger and the problem is getting worse. Justice Minister Michael Keenan also expressed concern regarding the increasing radicalization of children but declined to provide specifics on how many are being monitored by the authorities.
