IDF: zero tolerance for violent riots

The Friday prayers at the Palestinian and Jerusalem mosques passed more or less without incident. The IDF, Police and Border Police boosted security at potential flashpoints in readiness for any Palestinian disturbances in the wake of Friday prayers.  They were under orders to contain any mass protests before they get out of hand and tip over into violent rioting. No age restrictions were imposed on attendance at the Jerusalem mosque of Al Aqsa.  The initial protests rallies on the Palestinian street Thursday were mostly low key. Israeli Arab lawmakers called on their communities to join the Palestinian demonstrations in protest against the US president’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. This was decided at a session of the Supreme Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel in Nazareth Thursday.
