US VP Pence addresses the Knesset in Jerusalem at 2pm
The police shut down main thoroughfares in Jerusalem Monday, amid the extra security measures laid on for visiting US Vice President Mike Pence, who addresses the Knesset on Monday at 2pm local time. His 48-hour stay in Israel also includes talks with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, a visit to Yad Vashem and private prayers at the Western Wall. Netanyahu said they would discuss expanded Iranian aggression and its nuclear program as well as other security issues.
After the Palestinians said that the vice president was not welcome in Ramallah, the Israeli Arab Knesset faction announced its members would boycott his speech to the House Monday.
Pence arrived Sunday night after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah. A DEBKAfile exclusive on Sunday revealed the main theme of the message he conveyed to those leaders during his brief trips to Cairo and Amman.
