2012 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to European Union

The committee praised the EU for its historic role in “transforming Europe from a continent of wars to a continent of peace.” In a reference to Europe’s debt crisis, the Nobel committee said the prize was a reminder of “what would be lost if the union is allowed to collapse.”
