A bomb explosion in central Afrin kills 9 Turkish troops

A large explosion in a building in central Afrin Thursday killed at least 9 Turkish soldiers. It occurred while the Turkish MIT intelligence chief Hakan Fidan was visiting the northern Syrian town. On Sunday, Turkish and local forces captured Afrin from the Kurdish YPG militia. DEBKAfile’s military sources report skirmishes continuing is some corners of the town between the invaders and militiamen. Kurdish commanders warn they have launched a guerrilla war to drive the Turks and their proxies out of the enclave.
