A man shouting “That’s for Syria! attacks a police near Notre Dame, Paris

A man with a hammer assaulted a police officer patrolling outside Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, shouting “That’s for Syria!” before he was shot and injured by his victim.  Armed police told crowds to stay away and locked the doors of the cathedral. The roughly 2,000 people inside were told to gather around the center of the cathedral, sit in the pews and raise their arms. The incident was over within minutes.  Notre Dame has 13.6million visitors a year and is the most popular tourist attraction in France.
