Abbas tries explaining to Saudis he is not collaborating with Iran or Hizballah

DEBKAfile, reporting on the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to Riyadh, reveals he has been kept waiting to be received by King Salman or the crown prince. He made the trip now, even though the Saudi capital is in the middle of a massive upheaval, because he urgently needed to explain that he was forced into a reconciliation deal with the extremist Hamas by Egyptian President Abdel-Fatteh El-Sisi. Had it been up to him, Abbas would have declined these negotiations, he is telling Saudi officials. Above all, he will promise that he won’t let Hamas drag him into establishing ties between the Palestinian Authority and Iran or Hizballah. Abbas is quoted by Saudi officials as protesting that if Riyadh wishes to stop the Palestinian reconciliation process, he is not the address, but the Egyptian president.
