After two-year siege, rebels conquer Syrian airbase in Idlib

Syria’s state-run television station announced on Wednesday that government forces had withdrawn from the Abu al-Duhur air force base in Idlib province, located in the northwestern part of the country, and abandoned it after a long battle and a siege of about two years. Besides the base, fighters from the radical Ahrar-al-Sham militia also occupied the nearby city of al-Mastouma and thus completed the rebel takeover of most of Idlib province.
