Air strikes kill 5 pro-Iranian militiamen in S. Syria – report

Five pro-Iranian militiamen were killed in air strikes attributed to Israel in the southern Syrian province of Sweida Tuesday night, Syrian opposition sources report, describing the target as a center housing the militia. A second target allegedly attacked was a telecommunications center in the same province, killing two Syrian air force officers. The Syrian army reportedly activated an air defense system against the “hostile targets.” A third raid was reported shortly after midnight over Hama, further west. A fourth strike in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zour was not attributed to Israel.

Military sources report that pro-Iranian militias have recently taken up position in southern Syrian locations.
