Alleged Israel strikes kill 16 at pro-Iranian bases on Syria-Iraq border
The Syrian news agency attributed to Israel a nocturnal raid Tuesday night in the Deir ez-Zour, Abu Kamal areas near the border with Iraq, without mentioning casualties. Syrian opposition sources claimed that at least 5 Syrians and 11 pro-Iranian militia members were killed in a wide-ranging operation which targeted 18 warehouses and facilities. This border district serves Iran as its corridor for the transfer of military personnel and weapons via Iraq to its forces in Syria and Lebanon.
This was the fourth strike in three weeks against pro-Iranian forces in Syria. The last raid targeted Syrian facilities hosting Hizballah terrorists in southern Syria.
