Amendment to premier’s incapacity law confirmed
A special parliamentary committee Monday passed the first reading of an amendment to the Basic Law on the conditions for establishing the prime minister’s incapacity to serve in office. The amendment limits disqualification only to conditions of physical or mental incapacity, eliminating conflict of interest for disqualifying a prime minister.
The full house is due to vote later on the first reading of the highly controversial clause which would empower the Knesset to override a High Court ruling against ordinary legislation by a simple majority.
