America marks the 12th anniversary of 9/11

A minute’s silence was observed across America Wednesday on the 12th anniversary of Al Qaeda’s Sept. 11, 2011 attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. At Ground Zero, New York,  family members read out the names of the 2,977 people who died in 2001 when two flights were crashed by terrorists into the World Trade Center and in the 1993 attack on the same target.  Among the victims were 403 police and firefighters.

At the Pentagon in Washington, President Obama was to address the bereaved families of 184 victims.

In Shanksville, southwestern Pennsylvania, wreaths were laid in memory of the 40 passengers and crew who attacked the terrorists before they could crash the doomed plane into their target.
