Amid heat wave, Israel warns of fines, jail time for lighting fires in open areas
As a heat wave continues to grip Israel, the interim commissioner of the country's Fire and Rescue Service, Shimon Ben-Ner, issued an order on Sunday barring the lighting of fires in open areas. Anyone who does not abide by the order will be fined up to 70,000 shekels or receive up to six months in prison. The temperatures are forecast to rise further on Monday.
