Anti-Morsi riots escalate across Egypt
DEBKAfile reports that in the Muslim Brotherhood stronghold of Alexandria, not only were the party headquarters torched Friday, but hundreds of its members were injured in street assaults. At least one person was killed. Fierce clashes between pro- and anti-Brotherhood adherents swept the Delta cities of Mansoura and Tanta, causing several hundred more casualties. These disturbances occurred in the run-up to the big “uprising” against President Morsi declared by opposition groups Sunday for which they expect to rally 1.5-2 million supporters.
