Arlen Specter to be laid to rest Tuesday at Shalom Memorial Park

In a remarkable career spanning three decades in the US Senate, Arlen Specter left his mark on vital legislation and foreign affairs as an aggressive moderate, who switched from the Democrats to the Republicans and back again in support of his principles. Sunday, he died of cancer aged 82. Jewish American leaders have hailed him as a staunch supporter of the U.S.-Israel alliance, a leader in efforts to facilitate the emigration of Soviet Jews and a watchdog on international terrorism who raised alarms over Iran’s military ambitions.
