A 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked a sparsely populated part of eastern Turkey on Friday, killing at least 20 people, injuring more than 900 and leaving some 30 people trapped in toppled buildings. Its epicenter was in the small lakeside town of Sivrice in the eastern province of Elazig, a popular tourist spot and the source of the Tigris river. Light tremors were felt in Israel and near the Iraqi and Syrian borders.
