At least 48 killed in 7-hour battle with Taliban in W. Afghanistan

Heavily armed Taliban insurgents stormed a government courthouse in the town of Farah near the Iranian border Wednesday to rescue insurgents facing trial. More than 90 people were wounded, most civilians. All nine of the attackers are said to have died in seven hours of battle with security forces, either in exchanges of fire or by detonating their suicide vests.
