At least 5.5 million Syrian children affected by war
The number of children affected by the Syrian war has doubled in the past year to 5.5 million – more than half the country’s children and an entire generation, the UN children’s agency reports. Malnutrition and illness have stunted their growth; a lack of learning opportunities derailed their education and the blood trauma of war has left deep psychological scars. Syrian children in their thousands have “lost lives and limbs along with every aspect of childhood – parents, teachers, brothers, sisters, friends and homes.”
