At least 5 Egyptian officers, 22 Islamists killed in Sinai battles
The five Egyptian soldiers were killed Saturday when Islamist terrorists attacked two military checkpoints near Sheikh Zuwaid in northern Sinai, the same installations they attacked on July 1, killing dozens of Egyptian soldiers. The fighting continues unabated around Sheikh Zuwaid and Rafah on the Gaza border, with the Egyptians unable to root out the Sinai branch of the Islamic State’s grip on the region. The Egyptian army Saturday claimed at least 22 “terrorists had been eliminated” and others arrested when the military engaged multiple targets in North Sinai.
