Atlanta police chief resigns after officer fatally shoots Black man
Atlanta Chief of Police Erika Shields offered her immediate resignation one day after a review began into the killing of 27-year old black resident, Rayshard Brooks. After he failed a sobriety tests, Brooks grabbed an officer’s Taser and was running away when he was shot. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she did not believe this was a justified use of deadly force and called for the police chief’s immediate resignation as a protest march was staged at the site of the incident.
Demonstrators later burned down Wendy’s restaurant where the shooting occurred.
