Australia loses five men in Afghanistan

Three Australian soldiers were killed and two wounded when an Afghan in army uniform opened fire on them with an automatic weapon at close range at their Uruzgan base. They returned the fire but the shooter escaped. In an unrelated incident, two soldiers died after their helicopter rolled over while landing in Helmand province. The Australian prime minister said this was the country’s worst day in the war.
