Bahrain cuts short a visit by senior US official
Tom Malinowski, assistant secret of state for human rights, was asked to leave Bahrain Monday, accused of violating “conventional diplomatic norms” and interfering with the country’s internal affairs by meeting with “one side and not the others.” The reference was to his meeting with the main Shiite opposition.
The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet is headquartered in the kingdom and Western officials have been concerned about human rights as well as Iranian meddlng.
