Ten Republicans boosted the Democratic majority of 232 to 197 for the House to impeach President Donald Trump for “inciting insurrection” at last week’s Capitol riot. The Senate is however in recess and unlikely to be sit before Democrat Joe Biden is sworn in as president in six days’ time.
Biden urged the Senate to conduct the impeachment trial of President Trump while simultaneously working on other critical issues. “This nation also remains in the grip of a deadly virus and a reeling economy,” Biden continued. “I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation.”.
Trump in a video released after the vote called on his followers to remain peaceful. “Violence and vandalism have no place in our country. No true supporter of mine would ever endorse political violence,” he said,
