Biden wins Democratic party’s presidential nomination

The Democratic national convention on its second night Tuesday gave former vice president Joe Biden, 77, overwhelming support for his run against President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election. The votes were digitally cast by video due to coronavirus restrictions.

Biden, a veteran politician, was solidly backed by former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter as well as Michelle Obama. Their main message emphasized the pressing need for the right leader to cure the “chaos” of the Trump presidency. As a political centrist, Biden needs to make his mark among minorities and young voters if he hopes to prevail against Trump’s bid for a second term. Vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris delivers her speech on Wednesday night.
