Bill Clinton to stand in for ailing wife on campaign trail?

After Hillary Clinton canceled this week’s campaign appearances on her doctor’s orders, former President Bill Clinton was said to be ready to stand in for his wife at an event in Las Vegas Wednesday. He played down her collapse at the 9/11 ceremonies Sunday as dehydration, claiming she had suffered from these spells in the past – even after her doctor diagnosed her with pneumonia. The diagnosis was made Friday, two days before it was released to the public. In Democratic circles, their presidential nominee is increasingly criticized for being overly secretive about her medical condition, at a time when her trajectory in the polls has stalled, compared with her rival Republican candidate Donald Trump’s upward swing – less than two months before the presidential election.

Among Hillary’s supporters there are calls for a contingency plan to replace her as Democratic presidential nominee in case she is forced to drop out of the race.
