Border Police chief tests covid-19 positive after ceremony with Rivlin, Gantz
Border Police Commander Yaakov Shabtai, tested positive for coronavirus two days after attending a ceremony led by President Reuven Rivlin at the national memorial site on Mt. Herzl, health officials confirmed in Saturday. Attended also by Defense Minister Benny Gantz and IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, the ceremony commemorated the soldiers killed in the 2014 Gaza war. Shabtai and other senior Border Police officers have been quarantined, while Gantz and Rivlin are awaiting the results of tests and Health Ministry instructions after their other contacts are traced. This week, the Knesset provisionally approved the use of the Shin Bet’s cellphone tracking app for three months.
Active coronavirus cases in Israel passed 10,000 on Friday. In hospital at present are 279 patients, including 77 in serious condition and 27 on ventilators.
