British Airways cancels flights over computer disruption
BA has cancelled all flights from Heathrow and Gatwick for several hours Saturday because of a “major IT system failure.” The airline reports a “severe disruption to our flight operations worldwide” and said it was working to resolve the problem. BA spokesman said there is no evidence at this stage to suggest the system failure was caused by a cyber attack.
The “global system outage” comes on a holiday weekend, when many thousands of Britons are travelling. BA said terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick had become extremely congested and urged passengers not to go to the airports. Passengers at Heathrow reported long lines at check-in counters, flight delays and failures of BA's website and mobile app.
