British Labour Party MP Cox dies after gun and knife attack
Jo Cox, a 41-year-old Labor Party member of the British parliament, was stabbed and shot early Thursday afternoon in northern England. She died after she was rushed by helicopter to a hospital in Leeds.The circumstances of the incident, which happened outside the city library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, remain unclear. The assassin shot her twice and stabbed her, and then left the MP bleeding on the ground and fled. Witnesses said he shouted "Britain first!" before opening fire. The 52-year-old assailant was arrested and taken into custody. Former London Mayor Boris Johnson said in a Twitter message that his thoughts were with Cox and her family, and that he was suspending his campaign for Britain's withdrawal from Europe due to the incident.
