British nuclear sub collides with Spanish merchant ship
The HMS Ambush, a British nuclear submarine, collided with a Spanish merchant vessel on Wednesday in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar. The deck and the bridge of the submarine were damaged, forcing the Ambush to anchor at a port outside Britain for repairs. A spokesman for the British fleet said that there were "no safety concerns" regarding the incident. Britain's ambassador to Spain was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Madrid to explain the accident amid the countries' longstanding differences of opinion regarding ownership of the strait.
