By lifting sanctions, the US also helps Iran’s military nuclear program

The Biden administration announced on Friday that the resumption of the waivers terminated by the Trump administration would aid progress in the Vienna talks for resuming the 2015 nuclear accord. US officials insisted, “We have not given Iran sanctions relief” adding the step entailed only technical adjustments with a view to keeping the indirect US-Iran negotiations on track. The new exemptions allow European, Chinese and Russian firms to resume operations in Iran’s non-military nuclear projects. DEBKAfile’s sources stress, however, that strengthening the civilian aspects of the nuclear program will also significantly enhance its weaponization.
