Cabinet unanimously confirms Erdan as ambassador to UN and US

The ministers on Sunday unanimously confirmed the appointment of former minister Gilead Erdan as Israeli ambassador to the United Nations and the United States after the incumbent Ron Dermer ends his term in Washington. “This is a very emotional moment for me,” Erdan said. “I take my leave of you now, but only temporarily.” Dermer is to stay on as ambassador until Jan. 21, 2021 when the next elected US president is sworn in. The cabinet also approved MK Ofir Akunis as minister for regional cooperation.
