Canadian FM Baird greeted in Ramallah with eggs and shoes
Palestinian demonstrators threw eggs and shoes at the convoy of Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird when he traveled to Ramallah Sunday to meet the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki. They held up signs reading "Baird you are not welcome in Palestine.” He is in the region for four days of meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials. In his first statement, the minister tactfully described his meeting with Malki as "cordial and constructive," and said it included "candid and frank exchanges on areas where we differ in opinion."
He was told by Palestinian officials that Canada supports the “wrong side” in the conflict with Israel.
Canada is opposed to the Palestinian bid to pursue war crime charges against Israel at the International Court in The Hague and blocked the Palestinian motion at the UN Security Council to set Israel a deadline for Palestinian statehood.
