Canadian hostage beheaded by Muslim militants in Philippines
Robert Hall, a Canadian man who had been held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf terrorist organization for the last nine months in the jungles of the southern Philippines, has been beheaded, Philippine officials said Tuesday, after the deadline for payment of a ransom expired. It came after the severed head of a Caucasian man was found in Jolo, the main town in Sulu province.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was "horrified" by the killing and that "The government of Canada will not and cannot pay ransoms for hostages to terrorist groups, as doing so would endanger the lives of more Canadians."
