Spanish PM rejects mediation on Catalan independence
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Wednesday rejected the Catalan president Carles Puigdemont’s offer to suspend independence “for a few weeks,” pending negotiations with the government in Madrid. Reiterating that the independence referendum held last week was illegal, Rajoy said that while always open to dialogue, he could not negotiate “the indivisibility of Spain,” and added “”No mediation is possible between democratic law and disobedience, illegality.”
